Koh Samui Cost Breakdown 2027: Realistic Trip Budgets

A Koh Samui holiday budget is easier to understand when you separate the villa from the way you want to spend your days. A family sharing a private pool villa, a couple eating at local restaurants and a group planning long dinners by the beach will arrive at very different totals — even for the same week.

This guide is for 2027 travel planning, reviewed on 8 October 2026. We checked the current starting rates in our collection; we have not treated them as confirmed 2027 seasonal quotes. Food, transport and activity figures below are working allowances, not a claim that suppliers have published those prices for next year. All amounts are in Thai baht (THB).

For detailed accommodation pricing, see our villa rental cost guide. Here, the focus is the whole trip: what to set aside, what to check and how the pieces add up.

Three ways to plan your budget

The following daily figures are for the whole party, not per person. They reflect the seven-night examples below and exclude flights, insurance, refundable deposits and contingency.

A relaxed week for two — around 15,000 THB per day

Allow for a private villa at 10,000 THB per night, mostly local dining, a few transfers and two paid outings. A villa with spare bedrooms can still suit a couple; the point is to pay for the setting you value, rather than assume that every room must be occupied.

A family week — around 30,000 THB per day

A villa allowance of 20,000 THB per night leaves room for meals, transport and a mix of outings for four guests. Ask about breakfast and child arrangements before adding separate allowances for them. An included service should not appear twice in your budget.

A shared beachfront stay — around 70,000 THB per day

For eight guests, a 50,000 THB nightly accommodation allowance leaves 20,000 THB a day across dining, transport and activities. This is a group budget, not a definition of the island's top luxury tier. More elaborate menus, private charters or peak-season villa rates can take the total considerably higher.

Accommodation: start with your actual dates

Rather than assume that a bedroom count determines the price, begin with the villa, dates and inclusions. These are current advertised starting rates checked on 8 October 2026, for the whole villa per night:

    VillaBedroomsGuests, up toStarting rate (THB/night)
    Paradise Villa Eden377,000
    Villa Osho61616,000
    Beach 36961250,000

Paradise Villa Eden and Villa Osho are in Chaweng Noi. Beach 369 is beachfront in Taling Ngam, close to Lipa Noi. The table shows how different settings can change your starting point; it is not a promise of availability or a seasonal price list.

Christmas and New Year, winter demand and school-holiday periods can change both rates and minimum stays. Do not apply a blanket discount percentage to a different month. Request a dated quote and use our best time to visit guide to weigh the weather alongside the price.

We have not applied a general 2027 price increase or attributed rental inflation to proposed infrastructure. Neither tells you what a particular villa will cost for your week.

    Food and drink

For an initial budget, these allowances help distinguish everyday meals from evenings you want to make more of:

    • Local Thai meal: allow 100–300 THB per person, before drinks.
    • Casual restaurant dinner: allow 500–1,000 THB per person, before alcohol.
    • A more elaborate dinner: set aside 1,500–4,000 THB per person, then check the menu and whether service and tax are included.
    • Villa dining: request the chef fee, grocery estimate and any shopping charge separately; there is no single all-inclusive per-person rate across the collection.

These are planning ranges, not checked menus or guaranteed 2027 prices. Breakfast included in your stay can make a meaningful difference over seven days. Wine, cocktails and imported ingredients can also move a dining budget more than the main course.

Bophut's Fisherman's Village offers a useful mix of places to eat. Leave some room for simple local lunches rather than planning every meal as an occasion.

    Transport

Choose transport around the villa's location and your outings, not a fixed number of driving days. A hillside or quieter west-coast stay may need more planned transfers; walking is not a dependable substitute for a vehicle everywhere on the island.

For early budgeting, allow roughly 800–1,500 THB per private airport transfer and 2,000–3,000 THB for a day with a driver. These are estimates: confirm vehicle capacity, hours, fuel, waiting time and the return journey. A larger group may require more than one vehicle or a van.

Compare the total for your actual outings with a rental-car quote that clearly states insurance and excess. For taxis and songthaews, agree the fare before setting off. Our getting around guide explains the options; a scooter should not be chosen purely to make the budget smaller.

Activities: leave room for the villa

Two or three well-chosen outings can be enough for a week. As a provisional allowance, set aside 2,500–4,500 THB per person for a shared boat day or 1,500–4,500 THB for a spa treatment, depending on duration and venue. Check these against the actual operator's price before booking.

Private boats are a different calculation: confirm the vessel, route, passenger limit, fuel, park fees and weather-cancellation terms. Do not multiply a shared-tour ticket price and assume it buys a charter.

In the weekly examples below, activities have their own spending pot. It is a choice about your holiday, not a package that Mykeythai sells. Beach days and time at the villa leave more of that pot available for one memorable outing.

Villa services: check what is included

Services belong in the context of your chosen villa and its manager. We do not operate a separate concierge or activity marketplace.

Before adding extras, ask for a clear list of inclusions. Housekeeping schedules, breakfast, staff hours and airport transfers vary by property. For optional services available at your villa, request the complete price, any minimum duration and the cancellation terms.

A chef arrangement may separate labour from groceries. A transfer may depend on vehicle size. Do not assume an optional service is available or complimentary merely because another villa offers it.

Hidden costs and money to keep available

A little clarity here prevents most surprises:

    1. Refundable security deposit: check the amount, payment method and return terms in your villa's booking policy. Keep it outside the holiday-spending total.
    2. Utilities and inclusions: ask whether electricity has a cap and which services are already covered.
    3. Tax and service charges: compare final totals, not just menu prices. Thailand's Revenue Department explains VAT and its exemptions; land transport, for example, is not simply subject to the same VAT assumption as every other service. Check the applicable rate and invoice for your travel dates rather than automatically adding 7% to everything.
    4. Bank fees and exchange rates: the ATM displays its charge before confirmation; your card issuer may add its own fees. Use our currency and money guide for practical payment advice.
    5. Travel insurance: budget separately for suitable medical cover and the activities you intend to undertake.
    6. Gratuities: optional, not an automatic 5–10% surcharge on the villa price.
    7. Entry requirements and fees: check official guidance before departure. A proposed tourist levy should not be presented as an already payable arrival charge or folded into a confirmed quote.

Keep the budget in THB until you are ready to compare it with your home currency. The Bank of Thailand's exchange-rate reference is a useful benchmark, but your bank's conversion and fees determine what you actually pay. We have deliberately not carried a fixed 2026 euro conversion into the 2027 examples.

    Sample weekly budgets

These illustrative seven-night budgets show the arithmetic for the whole party. The accommodation amounts are chosen allowances, not quotes for the named villas above. Dining includes groceries and any chef costs you choose to pay from that pot; activities and transport stay separate.

International and domestic flights, insurance, refundable deposits and contingency are excluded. Add a 10–15% planning buffer to the spending total: 10,500–15,750 THB, 21,000–31,500 THB or 49,000–73,500 THB respectively. This is a budgeting recommendation, not a mandatory fee. If your confirmed villa quote is higher, replace the accommodation line before calculating that buffer.

The simplest way to refine any of these examples is to settle the villa first, then choose the dinners and outings that matter to you. A clear quote and a little unallocated room are more useful than a headline budget that leaves the small print behind.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Our illustrative seven-night budgets are 105,000 THB for two guests, 210,000 THB for a family of four and 490,000 THB for eight guests sharing a beachfront villa. These are whole-party planning examples, not quotes. They exclude flights, insurance, refundable deposits and a separate contingency; the confirmed villa rate for your dates is the starting point.

No. This guide was reviewed on 8 October 2026 for 2027 travel planning. Villa starting rates were checked against our current collection; other figures are planning allowances rather than confirmed supplier prices. Seasonal rates, availability, exchange rates and optional services must be checked for your dates.

Check whether your quote includes taxes, breakfast, housekeeping, utilities and transfers. Allow separately for groceries and any chef fee, optional services, cash-withdrawal and card fees, travel insurance and voluntary tips. A refundable security deposit is money you need available, not an expected holiday expense.

Local Thai meals can be an economical choice for two guests. For larger groups, villa dining can be convenient, but it is not automatically cheaper. Compare the chef fee, groceries, any shopping charge and taxes against a restaurant meal for the same number of people.

Tips are appreciated but voluntary. Check whether a restaurant bill already includes service, and ask your villa manager about a suitable shared gratuity if you wish to thank the team. We do not recommend treating a fixed percentage of an expensive villa stay as an obligatory tip.

Bring access to both. Larger restaurants and shops often accept cards; small local businesses and shared taxis may need cash. Check the ATM's displayed fee before withdrawing and your own bank's charges. When offered a currency choice, paying or withdrawing in THB avoids the merchant's or ATM's home-currency conversion, though your bank may still charge fees.
